UGI Sunbury, LLC (Sunbury), built a ~35-mile pipeline to bring low-cost natural gas produced in the Marcellus Shale region to a planned 1,000-megawatt natural gas-fueled power generation facility in Snyder County, Pennsylvania.
In addition to serving the generation facility, the new pipeline will supply natural gas and system reinforcement to a local distribution system operated by UGI. A key component of this project was to provide metering skids to measure the amount of natural gas delivered to both the generating facility and the local distribution system.
Natural Gas Metering Skids
ShureLine Construction fabricated two natural gas metering buildings and skids for Sunbury in 2016 in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) standards. The scope of this project included the building structures, steel piping, valves, electrical and instrumentation associated with the skid. The key components included:
- Ultrasonic flow meters
- Rotary flow meters
- Gas detectors w/ sensors
- Pressure and temperature transmitters
- Sample Conditioning Panels
- Instrument Gas Panels
- Electrical & Instrumentation junction boxes
A picture of the completed skid at ShureLine’s fabrication shop is shown below.
All welding was required in accordance with ASME B31.8 and DOT requirements. All butt welds required 100% x-ray. All piping required hydro-testing for eight (8) continuous hours at a minimum pressure of 2220 psig to a maximum pressure of 2320 psig. In addition, a Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) was required to ensure that all equipment was in working order. Job Data Book was required, providing Sunbury all necessary documentation on the skid.
The overall project schedule is summarized below
- March 28, 2016: Purchase Orders were issued to ShureLine
- November 4, 2016: Meter skids were delivered
